Summary
Resolution specifies how much details an image can hold. The greater the
resolution, the higher the level of details and image quality.
Compression are often performed for practical reasons to reduce the space
required for storage of large amount of data. Data compression can use
either lossy compression mechanism or lossless compression mechanism
to reduce the size of data, while at the same time providing good quality of
source.
Compression standards include MJPEG, MPEG-4, and H.264 for video
data, and AMR, AAC, ADPCM for audio data.

Questions and Answers
1. What is one of the many advantages of CCD sensor over CMOS sensor?
a. CCD sensors create high quality and low noise images while CMOS
sensors are more susceptible to noise.
b. CCD sensors relatively need more effort to design the chip architecture,
while designing CMOS sensors are much easier.
c. CCD sensors show significant efficiency in power consumption as
compared to CMOS sensors which consumes more power.
d. CCD chips are extremely inexpensive as compared to CMOS sensor
because of its simple design of chip architecture.
2. Which of the following is the right sequence of video compression
computational requirement from the lowest to the highest?
a. MJPEG - MPEG-4 - H.264
b. H.264 – MPEG-4 – MJPEG
c. MPEG-4 – H.264 – MJPEG
d. MJPEG – H.264 – MPEG-4

4. What is the function of an image sensor inside a surveillance camera?
a. An image sensor captures the image that is seen through the lens by
registering the location, color, and intensity of light.
b. An image sensor is used to selectively transmit lights that meet some
particular parameter, while blocking the remainder.
c. Image sensor controls and coordinates the camera’s components.
d. An image sensor receives the digital signal captured by the camera and
compresses it into a chosen standard.
